The Rentouls – a Presbyterian Dynasty

By Very Rev Dr John W Lockington.

An account of a remarkable family of Presbyterian ministers – 15 in all – who ministered from 1791 to 1960,  and who together served for a total of 457 ministerial years.

Among the churches they ministered in, in Ireland, were Ray, Ballycopeland, Ballymoney, Clough (Co. Antrim), Banbridge Road Dromore, 1st Lisburn, Garvagh, Longford, Sandymount Dublin, Ballywatt, Clonmel, Rostrevor, Castledawson and Curran, and Ballycarry.

They made their mark in society in a variety of different ways - supporting Ulster tenant right and the temperance causes, standing for parliamentary election, serving in the First World War and contributing to the mission work in China.
